FAQ's

  • Add a hire start date
  • Add any additional products you require
  • Head to check out
  • Add a note if required
  • Select your shipping requirement or pick up for local addresses

You'll recieve confirmation Emails and communications as the hire does on

Does it hurt?

No; A TENS Machine is non-invasive. Electrodes are placed on the surface of your skin, in the lumbar region of your back and either side of your spine. You set the stimulation rate at a level which is comfortable for you; lower level stimulation encourages endorphin release in your body and higher level stimulation over-rides pain messages from the uterus.

Mums have described it as a ‘buzzing’ sensation or similar to using an electronic massage device.

How do I get my bond back?

Your bond is refunded via Shopify, this takes 7-10 working days from the time that I submit the refund, and you get notified of the pending payment.

If the full $50 bond is not being repaid, I will communicate this to you prior. Things that may prevent the full bond being returned is: Missing/broken lead wires, missing Birth Comb etc.

How soon should I have the TENS Machine arrive?

It's up to you how soon you have a TENS Machine arrive, depending on how your pregnancy is progressing. From 37 weeks of pregnancy a good option. Its ultimately your choice though.

Are there a risk of a TENS Machine starting labour?

No; A TENS Machine alone and when used as indicated will not start labour.

Can any mum to be use TENS Machine?

TENS Machines are a safe drug-free option for most women. Extra caution would be required for women who experience epilepsy, early miscarriage, or who have heart disease or an implant such as a pacemaker or defibrillator. In these circumstances.

TENS Machines should be considered in consultation with your Lead Maternity Carer.

Can a TENS Machine be used with other methods of pain relief?

Yes; The only circumstances you wouldn't include a TENS Machine with other forms of pain relief is with use of water (birth pool, shower, and bath) and an epidural block.

There is simply no need for TENS Machine when an epidural is applied, as all feeling from the waist and below is lost.

Can I use the TENS Machine with a water birth?

Yes; For early labour, while not in the water you can definitely use a TENS Machine.

The TENS is unable to go into the water, meaning it needs to be removed before getting into the shower or birth pool. Additional sets of TENS pads are perfect for this situation, meaning you're able to put a fresh set on upon exiting the water.

Can I pay in advance?

Yes of course -  I am most happy for you to take the stress away from booking a TENS Machine hire in the last few weeks before the birth. Simply book and pay online and a TENS Machine will be secured.

The TENS machine will arrive a few days before you booked it for.

Freight Costs

Due to the nature of what we do, there are several freight costs - we have attempted to keep these as straight forward as possible.

  • TENS Hire - Urban $14
  • TENS Hire - Rural $18
  • Pick up from Tirau - No Charge

(Should you opt for courier but end up doing an pickup/drop off of the TENS, I will make the required refund back to you along with your bond refund)

What if baby comes late?

No problem at all, if the TENS needs to be hired for an additional week, just advise by Email to terri@glowingbirth.co.nz, the cost is $20 per additional week and is taken out of the bond refund
