TENS Setup
In this day and age, mum’s are wanting to use as less medication as possible to birth their babies, this is why the use of a TENS machine has become so popular – And so they should, they are an incredible piece of equipment that is exceptionally effective for drug free pain relief.
There are many different models of TENS machine, I believe that the ELLE TENS machines are the best and most reliable, and most importantly they are endorsed by midwives.
The ELLE TENS 2 machines that we have include a contractions timer and boost button setting along side several pulsation patterns/modes meaning the mum to be has full control over how she receives the stimulation. Elle TENS machines are simple to set up: add the batteries, connect the 2x lead wires, connect 2 sets of oblong TENS pads, and ensure the boost button is turned off, it’s as simple as that.
You can wear the TENS around your neck with the lanyard that is included or clip it to clothing. How easy is that!
If you have purchased additional TENS pads you are able to change these during the birth if they start to loose their stick, or if you take them off to get into a shower or bath – as the TENS is unable to be worn in water.
Be sure to have the TENS on a low as possible when you realise that contractions are happening and you are in labour. A TENS is wonderful for the drive to your birthing location. As contractions ramp up, slowly increase the intensity of the TENS or change the modes to get the effective pain relief. You have the BOOST button to push when things are far too intense for you and you need a bit more assistance.
Mums who have used one of Glowing Birth’s TENS have been amazed by how effective it is and that the TENS is the only form of pain relief they needed for the birth of their baby. How incredible is that!
Once baby is here, simply throw away used TENS pads, give the machine a wipe down with a provided alcohol wipe, ensure all parts are there. Finally package it up, and ask a friend or family member to drop it off at an NZ Post shop or arrange to drop it off if this was pre arranged.
Finally, Congratulations mumma! Enjoy your precious newborn bubba.
